Fred Tomaselli was born in Santa Monica, California in 1956 and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
The artist is best known for creating paintings on wood panels with images cut from manuals, magazines, publications and brochures. He arranges his cut outs – which include flora and fauna and human features and limbs – into patterns and seals them beneath a thick layer of poured epoxy resin.
Tomaselli has exhibited widely, including The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 1999; Berlin Biennale, 2001; 5th Site Santa Fe Biennial, 2004; Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, 2004; The Rose Art Museum, Massachusetts, 2005, ‘Ecstasy’, LA MOCA, 2006 and Prospect 1, CAC, New Orleans, 2008.
Fred Tomaselli is represented by White Cube Gallery, London and James Cohan Gallery, New York.
